International and Inter-regional Relations

Since 1960-s Petrozavodsk has actively began to develop sister-cities' ties with the cities of foreign countries. Now the city has 11 sister- and partner-cities in Europe and the USA. 8 sculptures-gifts from sister-cities are placed on the Onego Lake Embankment to symbolize friendship.

Over the past years the main aspects and directions of international cooperation have changed. Today the City Administration pays more attention to implementation of joint mutually beneficial projects with our partners. An important role in making contacts between the citizens belongs to Friendship societies and National and Cultural Autonomies which help to disseminate knowledge of languages, cultures and traditions of different countries.
